Hester Eigner

Hester was a school teacher (music) for ten years before opening her own music studio in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. She is contracted to apply her talents to compose and arrange Choral Music for special occasions and performances by various provincial choirs in the Republic of South Africa. She has also been commissioned by professional singers to produce musical arrangements for individual performances. She has published music books for Music Theory, Recorder and Church Organ. Besides composing, Hester is also a qualified Musikgarten Teacher. She works as a full time music and art teacher at Maranatha Christian School. She is the conductor of the East Rand Men’s Choir, MCS School’s Elementary Choir and the MCS Senior Primary School Choir. She also teaches Recorder lessons at the school to learners from Gr. R – 6. She trains Percussion Bands for Eisteddfod each year and has a successful piano studio of which learners are classical trained and enter the ABRSM exams every year.

COMPOSITIONS & Choirs

Herewith 2 of Hester's big choral compositions and the International Competition in Austria

GLORIA
As commissioned by the East Rand Youth Choir and the Rheinberger Chamber Choir under baton of Richter Grimbeek, Hester composed the Gloria. This work was premiered in August 2008 at the Voortrekker Monument. The Gloria with its basic Latin text is sung in four parts. Part III is performed by Kate Wilmot, and is by far the favourite part with audiences. A CD recording was made of the Gloria.
REQUIEM
The East Rand Choral Artists performed Hester’s composition – Requiem for the Victims of Crime and Violence in South Africa in the Auditorium of Maranatha Christian Church. This very successful concert was done with a small orchestra, soloists and 100 choir participants.
MAGNIFICAT
Hester composed this work in 2009, which premiered at the Voortrekker Monument in August 2009. This work consists of seven parts and sung in Latin. A CD recording was made and all 7 parts can be seen on youtube. In July 2011 she joined the Jeugland Girls and Boys Choir as accompanist to the Musica Sacra competition in Rome, Italy. Both choirs won their categories and Jeugland Girls choir performed one of Hester’s compositions. They were crowned champions at the ATKV Applous competition that same year.

• Accompanied Hoerskool Jeugland choirs to Bratislava, Slovakia in July 2014. They sang in the 6th International Choir Competition.
• Teaches private music lessons at Maranatha Christian School.
• Teaches music and art full time at Maranatha Christian School from 2015 until now.
• Directs 2 choirs at MCS
• Teaches recorder lessons at MCS.
